Tuttle Update February #4

Baby

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

“The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the name of the Lord” (Job 1:21). The Lord has glorified Himself many times by providing for us and giving us good things... This time God has chosen to glorify Himself by bringing pain into our life and taking away something we longed to have. God has decided to take away the baby that we were so elated about adding to our family. Amy was 3 and a half months along in her pregnancy and she was starting to show, so we thought it was safe to announce to everyone about this exciting expansion plan.

Yesterday Amy and I went to see the OB/GYN and while looking at the baby on the ultrasound the doctor couldn't find the heartbeat. After double-checking with another ultrasound it was confirmed that the baby had died within the last few days. It's surprising how quickly we had gotten attached to a little baby that we never even met. Please pray for us, especially for Amy at this difficult time. God is sovereign. He knows why He does what he does. Blessed be His holy name!

Bert Elliot is with Jesus

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Every single one of us was born, has lived, and one day, unless the Lord comes first, we'll all die. It's absolutely certain. Eighty some odd years isn't all that long either. We're here for a short time, given a measured out life, and presented with only one really important choice. Based on what we decide, we live out the remainder of our days either in love with Jesus, rejecting and ignoring Him or in dread fear of Him. When our appointed hour comes and we cross that finish line, what will people say about our life? What will God say?

He's all done with this world of tears. Our uncle Bert Elliot is with the Lord! Many, many will have stories for years to come about Uncle Bert's life. How he loved them, helped them, or showed them Jesus. Many are the tears that are still to be shed though, because we will all miss him very much. The man who looked so much like and lived so close to Jesus finally gets to see Him face to face! If we're sad today it's only because we have to wait to see him again. Truly our hearts are glad at the reunion that is happening in heaven right now. When asked a few minutes ago if he could imagine what Uncle Bert might be experiencing right now, without skipping a beat Josiah said, “Yep, gold roads.” :)

For days now, we've all been waiting with him for his appointed hour. As a little friend of mine said, for Uncle Bert it was like waiting in a really long line to get ice cream. Uncle Bert loved ice cream. :) Now that he's where his heart's desire is, the rest of us will have to figure out what life here looks like without him. There will be a service this evening and another tomorrow before the burial. Please pray for our dear Aunt Colleen, for peace and comfort and that the Lord would show Himself ever closer and dearer to her heart in the days to come. Pray also for the church here to respond profoundly to what the Lord would have us all learn in the upcoming weeks through the passing of our dear brother.

Tuttle Update February #3

Dear praying friends,

On Friday February 3rd Javen, Cullen, Christopher Mattix, Aaron Godfrey and I set out on a beautiful 17 hour driving trek to our jungle town of Tarapoto.

When we arrived we had a great time visiting with the brothers, preaching the Word and getting a better look at the property we are trying to buy.

Sunday night we got to bed at about 2 a.m and then were up again at 4 a.m ready to head for Yurimaguas where Chris and I taught at a Capacitacion Biblica all week. Each day I taught 2 hours of eschatology and 2 hours of evangelism.

Wednesday night I preached open air in the main square, Thursday night I shared in a home Bible study, Friday night I preached in a rural church, Saturday night I preached at a Vacation Bible school for kids, Sunday morning I preached in the Yurimaguas central church and Sunday night we were back in Tarapoto where I preached in our assembly there.

It was a real whirlwind of activities but a great time of fellowship and mutual encouragement. We thank the Lord that He protected us along the way from many potential dangers and allowed us to be useful instruments in His hands.

John Westley said: "You have nothing to do but to save souls. Therefore spend and be spent in this work. And go not only to those that need you, but to those who need you most.... It is not your business to take care of this or that society; but to save as many souls as you can; to bring as many sinners as you possibly can to repentance."
