LIBERIA:
Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf was awarded the Nobel Peace
Prize this week for her leading Liberia out of the chaos of so many years
of war and in her defense of women in the country. This is great in the
face of a general election for a new president for Liberia this coming
Tuesday the 11th. The election is highly contested with about a dozen
candidates for president, and whether President Sirleaf will win or not
is definitely uncertain. There are some others who are seeking the
presidency totally for selfish desires to enrich themselves. I don't know
much about the others running, but there is opposition to President
Sirleaf claiming that she has not done as much as she should of during
these past 6 years. Basically she has been a good president and has
brought a lot of help to the country. There are threats of violence and
claims of corruption by some challenging her if she does win.
Pray the God will keep this country in peace and open to the advancement
of the gospel. These past 8 years since Charles Taylor left the country
have opened many doors for the advance of the gospel. May the Lord
continue to keep these doors open. Pray that God will lead in this
election.
